This week’s Torah portion is Terumah (found in Exodus 25:1 – 27:19) means “offering, contribution, or special gift”. After having received the 10 commandments and entering a covenantal relationship with G-d, the Hebrews are continuing their journey in the wilderness when G-d tells them to build a tabernacle (mishkan) so He can dwell amongst them. The L-rd provides Moses with detailed instructions for the people to contribute thirteen specific materials needed to construct the sanctuary so that it could be dismantled, transported and reassembled as they journeyed in the wilderness. Also, the tabernacle is designed with an inner chamber containing the Ark of the Covenant which holds the tablets of the 10 commandments and an outer chamber containing the seven branched menorah and table of showbread.
Do the Tabernacle offerings have any meaning for our lives and our spiritual walk?
Even though we no longer have a Tabernacle (or Temple), does it still have any significance for us in 2026?
