Shabbat Chazon & Tisha b’Av
Shabbat Chazon: A Vision of the Temple – GalEinai
This Shabbat, called Shabbat Chazon (“Shabbat of Vision”), falls just before Tisha b’Av (which begins on Saturday, August 2nd through Sunday evening, August 3rd). Tisha B’Av (9th of Av) is considered the saddest and spiritually darkest day of the Jewish year as it is the anniversary of the destruction of both the first and second Holy Temples in Jerusalem. However, on Shabbat Chazon, we are starting the reading of a new book in the Torah, Devarim (Deuteronomy).
-
Why was Shabbat Chazon (Shabbat of Vision) given that name?
-
Why is Tisha B’Av considered the spiritually darkest day of the year?
-
Is there any significance to the Torah cycle having us begin a new book on Shabbat Chazon?
-
Come join us and let’s get into it!
